The UNEB eRegistration Process: A Step-by-Step Guide for Schools

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has streamlined the registration of candidates for national examinations through its innovative eRegistration system. This digital platform has replaced the old manual process, allowing schools to register students for PLE, UCE, and UACE quickly, accurately, and conveniently. The UNEB eReg Portal and the Assessment Management Information System (AMIS) have become essential tools in managing examination data across the country.

Understanding the UNEB eRegistration System

The UNEB eRegistration (eReg) system was introduced to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and security of examination candidate data. It combines an offline registration software used by schools and an online UNEB portal for uploading and verifying candidate information.

This system ensures that all schools — even those in remote areas with limited internet access — can complete candidate registration seamlessly. Schools can perform all data entry tasks offline and later synchronize the information through the UNEB eReg portal once internet connectivity is available.

Key Components of the eRegistration Process

The registration of candidates with UNEB for PLE, UCE, and UACE involves three main components:

  1. Assessment Management Information System (AMIS)
  2. This is a desktop application provided by UNEB that schools install on their computers. It allows data entry for candidate details such as name, gender, date of birth, subjects, and photograph.

  3. The UNEB eReg Portal (Online System)
  4. Accessible at https://ereg.uneb.ac.ug, the portal enables schools to upload the registration data collected using the offline software (AMIS). Schools can also make Ammendments; generate candidates Albums, Registration Slips and Packaging Figures; and access the generated invoice for registration fees through the portal.

Step-by-Step: How to Register Candidates with UNEB

Step 1: Obtain the UNEB Offline Registration Software

UNEB provides the offline registration software to all examination centres through district or municipal education offices. Schools should ensure they receive the correct version for the specific examination level — PLE, UCE, or UACE.

Step 2: Install the Software

Install the software on a school computer following the instructions provided. The program works on computers running Windows 10 & later and does not require an internet connection during data entry.

Step 3: Capture Candidate Data

Enter all candidate details, including:

The software automatically validates the data to reduce errors and ensures the format matches UNEB requirements.

Step 4: Generate and Print Summary Report

After entering all data, schools generate a Summary Sheet and Registration Slips to verify accuracy. The Headteacher, parents, and candidates should confirm that the names, subjects, and other details are correct before submission.

Step 5: Upload Registration Data via the UNEB eReg Portal

Once verification is complete, connect to the internet and log in to the UNEB eReg portal at ereg.uneb.ac.ug. Upload the Excel registration file generated by the offline software (AMIS). The system will confirm receipt and allow you to view submitted records.

Step 6: Make Payment of Registration Fees

All payments for registration are made electronically through UNEB bank accounts or mobile money. The payment is made using the invoice generated by the eReg Portal on submission of the registration data.

Step 7: Print Proof of Registration Documents

After payment, schools can print the Candidates Albums, Registration Slips, and Packaging Figures from the UNEB eReg portal. These documents are printed in duplicate, signed by the candidates and filed. 1 file is sent to UNEB while the other is retained by the school.
